Copenhagen Card App — How It Works

Your booking confirmation email is not your card. You must enter an 8-character code in the Copenhagen Card City Guide app to activate. Here’s exactly how — plus what to do if something goes wrong.

Step by Step

How to redeem your code

Your booking confirmation email contains an 8-character code. Do not confuse this with your GetYourGuide voucher — they are different things.

1

Find your 8-character code

After buying, you’ll receive a booking confirmation email with an 8-character code (letters and numbers). This is your Copenhagen Card code — not the GetYourGuide voucher PDF.

2

Open the app

Download and open Copenhagen Card City Guide. Tap “My Cards” at the bottom of the screen. You’ll see an option to “Add Card” or enter a code.

3

Enter the 8-character code

Type or paste your 8-character code exactly as it appears in the email. The app will recognize it and add your card. You’ll see your card type and duration.

4

Do not activate yet

Your card is now in the app but not active. The timer starts the moment you activate — and cannot be paused or undone. Only activate when you are ready to start exploring.

Critical Warning

When to activate — the timer cannot be paused

The clock starts immediately and cannot be stopped

Once you activate your card, the timer begins counting down your hours. There is no pause button, no way to stop the clock, and no refunds for activated cards. Only activate when you are standing at your first attraction, ready to start exploring.

✓ Right Time to Activate
Standing at your first attraction

At the airport about to take the metro
Morning of your first tourism day
✗ Wrong Time to Activate

Problems?

Troubleshooting common issues

Lost phone or deleted app

Your 8-character code can be redeemed on any device. Download the app on your new phone and enter the same code. Your card will appear with the remaining time left.

Code not working

Check you are using the 8-character code from your booking confirmation email, not your GetYourGuide voucher. The two are different — only the confirmation email contains your Copenhagen Card code.

QR code won’t scan

Make sure your card is activated in the app first. The QR code only works after activation. If it’s still not scanning, increase screen brightness and ensure the code fills the validator screen.

App crashes or freezes

Close and reopen the app. If problems persist, delete and reinstall the app, then re-enter your 8-character code. Your card data is stored on the servers, not locally.

More Questions

Common app questions

Do I need internet to use the app?

You need internet to download the app and activate your card. Once activated, the app works completely offline — including the QR code, map, and attraction listings.

Can I use the same code on multiple phones?

Your code can be redeemed on any device, but only one device can have an active card at a time. If you enter the code on a second phone, it deactivates the first one.

What if I enter the wrong code?

The app will show an error if the code is invalid. Double-check you are using the 8-character code from your booking confirmation email, not your GetYourGuide voucher PDF.

Can I see how much time is left?

Yes — the app shows your remaining hours in real-time. You can see exactly when your card expires, down to the minute.
