Is the Copenhagen Card Worth It?

Yes, the Copenhagen Card is worth it for most visitors staying 3 or more days. The 72-hour Discover card costs €139 and breaks even at 7–8 attractions. Tivoli, Kronborg, the Zoo, Canal Tours, Rosenborg and the airport metro return already total €112, so one more stop puts you ahead. It is not worth it if you plan fewer than 4 attractions.

How It Works

How to read your results

One visit per attraction
The card gives you one entry per attraction — re-entry is not possible. Each attraction you tick counts once, regardless of how long you spend there.
Clock starts on activation, not purchase
Buy the card now, activate when you’re ready to start exploring. Codes are valid for up to 24 months from purchase. All cards on one order activate simultaneously.
SMK National Gallery — free without the card
SMK’s permanent collection has free entry. The card adds no value there. Plan to visit SMK but don’t count it toward your break-even calculation.
Many museums close on Mondays
Roughly half the card’s venues are closed on Mondays. If your trip includes a Monday, factor this in — you may need one extra day to hit your target.

Exclusions

What’s not included

Tivoli rides cost extra
Gardens entry is included. Individual ride tickets are not — budget roughly €20–30 per person for rides. The unlimited ride wristband is also not included.
Restaurant discounts removed in 2026
The Copenhagen Card no longer includes restaurant discounts. This was removed in 2026. Any website claiming restaurant discounts are included is out of date.
Den Blå Planet no longer included
Copenhagen’s national aquarium was removed from the card. It is no longer included in any version of the Copenhagen Card.
Special exhibitions cost extra
Permanent collections are included at all venues. Temporary or special exhibitions carry a separate charge at most major museums — typically €12–18 extra per exhibition.

Children & Families

Children and the Copenhagen Card

Infants 0–2 are completely free
No card needed for infants. They enter all attractions free and travel free on all public transport with an adult cardholder.
Children 3–11 need their own card
Child cards must be ordered at the same time as adult cards — you cannot add them to an existing booking. Each adult card covers up to 2 children aged 0–11 for transport on Discover.
Youth 12–15 pay a discounted rate
Youth aged 12–15 pay roughly 57% of the adult price. They are not free. Cards must be ordered with adult cards on the same booking.
All cards activate simultaneously
All cards on one order start counting at the same moment. Buy separate orders if your group wants different start times — but child cards must always be on the same order as an adult card.

Honest Verdict

When the card is not worth it

1–3 attractions only
If you’re planning fewer than 4 attractions, individual tickets will be cheaper. The card only pays off when you’re visiting multiple venues across multiple days.
Hop card for airport users
The Hop card does not cover the airport metro. If you’re flying into Copenhagen, get the Discover card — it covers airport transport and costs less at 72hr ($161 vs $163).
Short trip, city centre only
If you’re staying one night and visiting 2–3 central attractions without using the airport metro, the card may not pay off. Run the numbers in the calculator above.
For most 3-day visitors: yes
A solo adult on the 72hr Discover card needs 7–8 attractions to break even. Tivoli + Kronborg + Zoo + Canal Tours + Rosenborg + airport metro return already gets you there.

When it IS worth it

  • You’re staying 3 or more days and plan 7+ attractions — everything past break-even is pure saving.
  • You’re flying in and out of Copenhagen, since the Discover card covers the airport metro both ways (about €8 per person).
  • You’re hitting big-ticket stops like the Zoo (€26), Tivoli (€21) and Kronborg (€20), which get you to break-even fast.
  • You’re planning day trips such as Kronborg in Helsingør, because the card covers the train journey as well as the entry fee.
  • You’re travelling as a family — 2 adults and 2 children (3–11) pay €326 for 72 hours, less than individual tickets for 5–6 family attractions.

How many attractions do I need to visit to break even?

On the 72hr Discover card ($161/€139), visiting Tivoli (€21), Kronborg (€20), Zoo (€26), Canal Tours (€18), and Rosenborg (€19) adds up to €104. Add the airport metro return (€8) and you’re at €112 — one more attraction and the card pays for itself.

Is Discover or Hop better value?

At 72 hours, Discover costs $161 (€139) and Hop costs $163 (€141) — Discover is cheaper and covers 80+ attractions vs 40+, plus all public transport including the airport. Discover is better value for almost every visitor.

Does the airport metro count toward the savings?

Yes — the Discover card covers the M2 metro to and from Copenhagen Airport. A return journey costs approximately €8 per person without the card. This is included in the calculator above.

What about free attractions — do they count?

No. SMK National Gallery has a free permanent collection — visiting it adds no value to your card. The National Museum charges entry (€16) so it does count. All other venues on the card charge individual entry fees.

Is the Copenhagen Card worth it for families?

For most families, yes strongly. A family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children aged 3–11) on the 72hr Discover card pays $378 (€326). Individual tickets for 5–6 family attractions across 3 days would exceed this easily, especially with the airport metro saving.

Can I get a discount on the Copenhagen Card?

No. The Copenhagen Card has fixed pricing everywhere — the official site, GetYourGuide, and all resellers charge the same price. There are no discount codes, seasonal promotions, or group rates.
